I doubt over his suitability to attend any bi-lateral, multi-lateral or international meetings. What we need is an international-minded CE, not a merely Chinese-minded jerk. He was no match to Jean Chretien when he stood next to him in every aspect in the APEC summit. Shame on him ; shame on HK. |

Undeliably Tung has no political intelligence. Look what he has done to HK, NOTHING! Of course I know he's just a powerless puppet manipulated by the Central Government. But I still believe anyone who has a conscience would not make HK such a lousy place as it is now! As for the Metternich business, I think they have one thing in common-- They dislike dissidents and suppress them! |

Metternich had his constraints at that time. He was not all successful, at least he could not arrest the decline of Austria. Similarly , Tung got his constraints as well in the shadow of Beijing. Unlike Metternich, he has little say in foreign affairs. I don't blame him much. |

I think geist is too exaggrated to appreciate Tung as 'Hong Kong's Metternich' as Metternich was excellent in international diplomacy. Maybe you don't agree with his conservatism (as shown in his suppression of nationalism and liberalism). He succeeded in maintaining the general peace and stability in Europe during the period 1815-48 and in achieving the Concert of Europe in which international cooperation and understanding was the main tone in solving disputes. I understand that many people (except for those who like pretending themselves/support the figure without ground) feel unsatisfactory towards Tung's administration, but it's possible to discuss in rational sense. At least he serves as the negative figure in understanding what is a great leader in the course of studying history. |

I really have to thank Betty. Smart Betty has spoken my heart. Butt-headed Tung really puts HK in shame! I can't see a single bit of political artistry in him. Go be his own businessman, a thousand please; don't smear the name of a politician! |
