Hi!! Can you clarify these 2 points: 3. China's response to western challenge in the period in areas/ideas of reform - conservative and progressive. (Which period and why they are not open-minded as they have some reform movement???) 4. The scramble for concessions after Sino-Japanese War : anti-foreignism grew, the climax in 1900 Boxer Uprising. (Is Scramble for concessions equal to western imperialism???) 3. These terms "conservative and progressive" are relative in meaning. The more conservative took more negative view in dealing with the west, reluctant to change. The more progressive took more positive attitude in changing China by reform measures. Note that e.g. Li Hungchang could be considered as progressive in 1870s but conservative in 1890s. 4. Scramble for concessions manifested a climax of western imperialism in attempting to partition China. Too tired; stop here. -- Admin |
