The Consulate  (1799-1804)

Napoleon made himself the First Consul (totally 3 consuls).

He defeated the Second Coalition of the Powers. He began to strengthen France economically.

He became so popular that in 1804 he crowned himself Emperor Napoleon I. This marked the end of the First Republic and the beginning of the First Empire.
