The Period of the National Assembly (1789-1792)

The National Assembly issued the "Declaration of the Rights of Man" which stated that all men were born free and equal. A new government was formed with a king (Louis XVI) and a legislative assembly.

The French Revolution alarmed the other European monarchs. They tried to stop the spread of revolution in Europe. In 1792, Austria and Prussia joined hands to attack France. Revolutionary wars began.
