腰包可藏U1010, 手機,相機等等....
Vista on a cute gadget - just acquired.
Don't expect to use it the way as desktop or notebook. If u got much typing to do, don't use it. If u want to play many games, don't use it. If u want to watch many movies, don't use it (though it can play and screen is good). If u want to edit photos/graphics, don't expect it to go fast (though it can even run photoshop on acceptable level given such small machine).
But it is a good device to browse the web while lying on the sofa. The design is good. I can hold it with both hands, right thumb on the mouse pointer, left hand on the left/right mouse button, adjusting the screen to a comfortable angle. I can also use finger or pen instead on the screen.
Or I can switch it to tablet mode - landscape or portrait mode instantly. Again I can use finger to move the pointer, or press the middle button (beneath eh LCD) to call out the pad to write. If I need light the left button brings out 2 lights. In this mode I can hold it in one hand, particularly good for reading on portrait mode like a book (left hand holding the battery). At times I can play a movie; the speaker is loud enough for me at that distance. Or I can plug in a headset. I can browse photos taken recently. I am going to bring U1010 on a tour so I can store my photos using SD slot onto drive D.
When there is no wifi, I connect it with my mobile via bluetooth to surf the net. The speed is OK using just GPRS/Edge though it can't stream Youtube smoothly.
I use Vista. I don't bother to reinstall WinXp as some people do. It starts up slowly but after that I don't feel it really slow unless u try to treat it as a normal notebook. People have to change their mind when they choose this gadget.
I use hibernation mode so it boots to enter the Vista desktop usually in a minute. I used the acronis backup program to make image of C: on drive D (for restore if necessary). I stopped some start up services so it runs faster. I suggest unless u got experience in installing OS, don't try reinstalling XP because it may be troublesome particularly with the drivers. More toublesome with desktop PC.
But the battery is rather weak. I always use it with WIFI on and it lasts about 1hr45min to 2 hrs before shutting down. So I am thinking of getting the thick battery from US now. But it will increase its weight a bit and may not be so handy.... Some user in US rather prefers the thin battery for portability....
In sum, U1010 is more for leisure than productivity. It is more for mobility than office work. It is more for portability than power. It is more for communication (Email/instant messaging/web) than multimedia apps. It runs Office 2003 word fast -- but u feel tired faster than using a notebook. So it is better for casual typing on the road or in cafe than typing your long stuff. U can use Excel for some personal finance, but for Excel work in office -- U1010 is not a good tool; better use desktop/big notebook.
